FILMS ABOUT MEXICO
| Mexico
is one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the world. There are
57 different indigenous languages, plus local dialects, spoken. These
groups have been remarkably successful in adapting their traditional
cultures to the traumatic events of the last 500 years. Today, "indigenas" throughout
Mexico are actively engaged in a struggle for recognition of their rights
to autonomy. Most of the films you will find here are about aspects of
Mexico's indigenous culture. But the mixture of Spanish and indigenous cultures has also produced a rich and varied "mestizo" culture - notably in the extraordinary traditional musical styles of the various regions. | |
